The Greatest Gift
In the beginning, God created a beautiful, perfect world for us, full of peace and joy as we lived in perfect obedience to Him. Sadly, our free choice to rebel and sin against God brought brokenness. Now, our world is filled with fear, hate, depression, disease and every form of suffering.
Can there be real hope to find this peace and joy again?
The Bible’s Old Testament prophecies constantly pointed to the One who would suffer, take away sin and restore a fallen world.
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. Isaiah 53:5
The Bible’s New Testament records how God took on humanity like us and was born to die.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matthew 1:21,23
Because God is holy, no one can stand before Him without an absolutely perfect record. We are all found lacking!
Because God is just, His justice demands payment for any sin. In a court of law, there is a penalty required for breaking the law.
…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23b
Eternal life is God’s own life – the Holy Spirit, which is the very power of God, will live in you.
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and oyou will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38
When you do, a divine transaction is made in God’s courtroom and you stand boldly with confidence before God because you’ve received the verdict, “Righteous!”
God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God. Romans 4:24-25 NLT
